HALB is seeking a thoughtful, collaborative, and student-centered educational leader to serve as our next Middle School General Studies Principal, beginning July 2026. Located in Woodmere, NY, Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB) is a Centrist/Modern Orthodox school community committed to academic excellence, religious growth, and personal character development. The school has been serving the Jewish community for the past 70 years and now has 1700 students between its Lev Chana Early Childhood Center, Elementary School, Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys and Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls. The Middle School serves approximately 300 students in grades 6-8, supported by a talented and dedicated General Studies, Judaic Studies and Student Support faculty.

HALB has developed a strong reputation for providing both excellence and balance in General and Judaic studies, ensuring that each student is challenged academically while being nurtured emotionally and spiritually.   1. Key Responsibilities for the Middle School General Studies Principal

The Middle School General Studies Principal reports directly to the Head of School and serves as a core member of the school’s Senior Leadership Team. Responsibilities include:

Instructional Leadership and Academic Vision
Lead the articulation and continued advancement of a 21st century, rigorous, engaging General Studies program aligned with the school’s mission and values.

Faculty Support, Supervision, and Growth
Supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers while fostering collaboration, professional reflection, and shared ownership of student learning.

Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Development
Ensure curriculum coherence, alignment across grades, and effective use of assessments to guide instruction and support student growth.

Collaborative Leadership Across the Dual Curriculum
Partner with the Middle School Judaic Studies Principal and Senior Leadership Team to provide students with a cohesive, mission-aligned experience across academic and student life domains.

Student Experience, Support, and Development
Work closely with Guidance, Learning Support, and Student Life departments to meet students’ academic and social-emotional needs. Oversee behavioral matters in ways that are consistent, caring, and values-driven. Support smooth transitions both into the Middle School and from Middle School to high school by helping students develop executive functioning, independence, and healthy peer relationships, and by collaborating proactively with local high school partners (including DRS and SKA) to ensure alignment, preparedness and shared expectations.

Community, Communication, and Parent Partnership
Build strong relationships between students, faculty, and families through presence, clarity, responsiveness, and trust. Serve as a thoughtful, visible, and engaged leader in the school community.

  1. Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
At least five years of leadership experience in schools
Demonstrated success supervising and supporting teachers
Teaching experience in the classroom
